Professor Dr Holger Militz is head of the Burkhart Institute, Dept. of Wood Biology & Wood Products, Goettingen University, Germany. He is also an adjunct professor in Wood Technology at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences.
He was previously Professor and head of the wood research group within the Chair of Forest Ecology at Wagneningen University (1995-2000)and Director of SHR Timber Research, Wageningen, Netherlands (1991-2000). Before that he was Head of the Department Wood Technology at TNO Centre for Timber Research (1987-1991).
He studied wood science at the University of Hamburg in Germany (1980-1987) and obtained his PhD from Wageningen University in 1991. His thesis topic involved improving the permeability of spruce. Dr. Militz has worked extensively in the field of wood modification and wood preservation investigating and developing a wide variety of technologies.
All of these have been grounded in a solid knowledge of wood science. His considerable expertise in the field of wood modification is renowned and we are particularly fortunate to welcome him to give his keynote address on wood modification methods which will lead off our symposium on Wood Protection without Biocides.
